Depetrochemicalization is the elimination of the extraction and consumption of petrochemicals for all uses, including as a fuel and as a raw material. It is similar to the term decarbonization, but perhaps more appropriate in that the latter may also imply the elimination ofcarbon in all forms, including from materials made from living organisms and from other organic matter.
Depetrochemicalization is a very difficult but absolutely necessary process for stopping further degradation of the environment because petrochemicals are by far the greatest contributors to the rapid accumulation of greenhouse gases as well as of plastics and other non-biodegradable, and often toxic, wastes.
